The much anticipated 2010 Submission Wrestling League (Sub League) Season is now open for registration! The season consists of two Qualifier events followed by the Championship. The Qualifiers are scheduled for February 13 and April 3. The Championship is set for May 22. All three events will be held at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Sub League is a No-GI submission grappling tournament where matches end in a win, lose, or draw. There are no points, just submissions. Sub League offers competitors more guaranteed matches than most other tournaments. Participants enjoy a pool format, where athletes compete against all those in their group, as opposed to brackets where the number of competitors are cut in half each round.
The League held a preview event this year, sponsoring the United Combat Sports Submission Grappling Tournament on January 23, 2010. The tournament was part of the First Annual Health, Fitness, and Martial Arts Expo at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem, Oregon. Although the event was not part of the official Sub League season, it kick-started competitor enthusiasm and introduced the sport of submission grappling to the numerous Expo attendees.
The Qualifier events are open to all – ages 4 and up, from novice to advanced. The Championship is reserved for those athletes who qualify at either or both of the earlier events. There will also be an open tournament on the day of the Championship for those who did not qualify or who were not able to attend the February or April events.
Competitors have until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, February 8 to register for Qualifier #1 (February 13). Qualifier #2 (April 3) registration will open on Monday, February 15; Championship (May 22) registration will open on Monday, April 5.
