Women's Self-Defense Class

Do you feel sometimes unsafe when you are returning home late from the work, from the theater or shopping? Have you ever think about what would you do IF... somebody was waiting for you around that corner, if somebody tried to grab you from behind on that dark street or if somebody forced you into your car? Would you like to increase your chances to escape from similar situations? If the answer is yes, then this class is for you!
The way the women's self-defense is thought in
our gym is unique. The training philosophy of our self-defense class is
based on the idea that self-defense is a "state of mind", not a set of
given techniques you can learn and use "as is". Every situation is unique,
every aggressor is different, so how can one reasonably expect that the
same technique will work in all situations and for everyone of us? More
than to try to learn many techniques, first you need to understand concepts
behind them, to be able to "feel" the aggressor, to "read" him - what he
is going to do, so then you can adjust your response according to the energy
he is using. It means bringing "aliveness" to your training instead of
repeating "dead", solidified patterns over and over. This is the basic
idea of Jeet-Kune-Do.
So, how to defend yourself?
First of all, your primary goal should be rather in preventing an attack to happen than in defending it. Run away, don't fight if you absolutely don't have to!, is the basic motto. However, our world is sometimes violent and you may not have that choice. Our class will prepare you to deal both, mentally and physically with the crisis situation if it occurs. Let us explain it. Many people become victims not because they would be in bad physical conditions, but only because they do panic and they are unable to respond appropriately to an attack. Their minds blocked their bodies, they "freeze" and become an "easy prey". In our class you will be exposed to an increasing stress arising from a realistically set up "attacks" of an uncooperative, unpredictable "aggressor". You will be given basic concepts of defending yourself in such situations, but the concrete realization, application of those concepts will be up to you. The only thing you will have to do, is to react! Whatever you will choose to do and whatever shows to be effective, is a good self-defense. In a short time, you will acquire reflex to recognize dangerous situations and to defend yourself automatically. If you want to learn more about basic concepts of self-defense, visit our Basics of self-defense page. To see how do we apply those basics in our training, look at photos from our class below.
