1. Back to School - Cubs’ Club Clicks Into High Gear

With the coming of the 08-09 school year, comes the Cubs’ Club Youth Program at IMPACT in full-effect. We are focusing on great technical Jiu Jitsu, character development traits, and fostering our positive competitive spirit.

Moms and dads: be on the lookout for the new “To Do” forms from your Cub. These are a great way to tie in “Black Belt Heart and Hustle” from the gym to performance and attitudes at home and school. It IMPACT, we are concerned about the development of the entire child … and this is our way of helping spread the positive influence of the gym beyond it’s walls.

To everyone:  We appreciate any positive words you can spread on behalf of the Cubs’ Club Program. With that, the beginning of the school year is a great time to recommend IMPACT’s Cubs program to family members, friends, and work associates. They won’t regret being a part of our positive team environment and fun training! ! !

If you a planning on competing in the Oregon Open Tournament (or just want to turn up the intensity dial in your training) there are two things you can do that bring out your tournament “A Game”:

1. Saturdays at 12:00pm, Coach Debruge, Oberhue, and Chapman will facilitate “tournament matches”! We will measure out the ring size, have the timers going, and be calling points. There is no substitute for the real-thing. Get your tournament technique, tactics, and strategies razor sharp with lots of goes. We had over 15 guys participate last weekend … and expect more next weekend. You don’t want to miss this GREAT training opportunity. This Saturday, September 6, we will be having the Newberg Crew in as well for a gym exchange — making it extra special! You won’t want time miss it!

2. Coach Debruge is running a special Oregon Open Prep program for individuals and small groups that want to get some personal attention. Contact him directly via email HERE or call 503.350.3926 to make an appointment with him. He will do a diagnostic of your game and help you make a specialized game plan based on your strengths and attributes. This is a great way to really dial in your plan the month before the biggest tournament in the Northwest! ! !

3. Launch of BJJ Blue Belt Skill Cards

Starting September 3, we are formally committing to teaching the BJJ Blue Belt Curriculum in all of IMPACT Jiu Jitsu’s BJJ 1 and BJJ 2 classes. We have created athletes’ skills card which can be found on the counter near the office. All white belts please get one the next time you are at class and begin tracking your progress. These skill sheets will help in tracking athlete’s learning and understanding of the Blue Belt curriculum.

The focus of a good percentage of your time in class (BJJ 1 and BJJ 2) should be focused on the curriculum.

Classes to Curriculum

BJJ 1       1st stripe material

BJJ 2       2nd and 3rd stripe material

BJJ 3       Fundamentals and supplemental material and secondary positions

Look for an expanded schedule when we move into our new facility!

Common Mistakes of a Mixed Martial Artist From a strength and conditioning perspective
Dewey Nielsen, Performance Enhancement Specialist

“There are many mistakes that I see MMA athletes do every day in the gym, especially when it comes to preparing for a fight. This article comes to life from conversations with other coaches (far smarter than I) and frustration with athletes. My goal is to shed some light on common mistakes I see and offer some strength and conditioning education on the sport I love and coach. Although we can argue that there are many other mistakes, I thought these are some of the big ones that should really be addressed.”
