1. Special class: SAMBO Saturdays!
IMPACT’s David Rubin, a purple belt BJJ, has an extensive background in Russian Sambo as well. Dave is a Sambo coach under former world champion, Arkady Buzin from Primorskiy Sambo in Vladivostok (Russian Far East). He has been involved in the martial arts for 20 years, and currently trains and competes in Sambo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo.
Dave will be running a Sambo class from 11 am - 12 pm on Saturdays in lieu of BJJ3 for the next month while Coach Debruge is vacationing in France. This is an AWESOME opportunity for folks at IMPACt to work their gi take-down game.
What is Sambo you might ask?
Sambo is a Russian hybrid martial arts derived from Judo and other traditional martial arts influences, along with over 20 different forms of ethnic wrestling indigenous to Russia and its former republics. Sambo comes in basically two flavors: Sport (Borba) Sambo is analogous to BJJ, and Judo. Combat (Tactical) Sambo was developed in the Russian military, and is credited for being one of the precursors to modern MMA.
The goal of this class is to introduce the basic foundation of Sambo, :
1) What differentiates Sambo and how does it complement a BJJ, Judo and MMA game
2) Anatomy of a Takedown
• Break falls – Overcoming the fear of flight
• Grip control – The most important fundamental of all takedowns
• Body structure vs. Balance – To execute a perfect throw one of these must be broken down
3) Strategy of a Sambo
• Psychology of being thrown
• How takedowns and Leg locks impact your opponent
Don’t miss this opportunity to train with Dave and work your take-down game! ! !

Big congrats goes to Todd Betters for receiving his brown belt in BJJ on Wednesday night. Todd is one of the long time athletes of IMPACT … being a fixture at the gym for over eight years. He is the model of intelligent, technical grappling and has worked diligently to continually better his game.
You ROCK Todd and are very deserving. Keep up the great training!
