1. New Schedule Begins Thursday, March 1

IMPACT is excited to announce three new classes and coaches to our schedule. All changes will take affect beginning Thursday, March 1. See updated schedule in pdf format HERE.

Women’s BJJ
Days: Mondays and Wednesdays
Time: 5 - 6 pm
Coach: Missy Conklin

This is a great new piece to our class schedule - a women’s only BJJ1 introductory class. Coach Missy will focus on the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The class actually began last Wednesday … and it was well attended with 7 women participating. If you are a women and have thought about trying out BJJ, now is your chance!

No-gi Submission Grappling
Days: Fridays (this has been revised since last IMPACT Update)
Time: 5 - 6 pm
Coach: Keisuke Andrew

Coach Keisuke is one of the best grapplers in the gym. He will be running a no-gi submission class on Thursday –> perfect timing for those athletes competing in the Sub League 07 season. It should be a fantastic class.

MMA 1 Day Class
Days: Fridays
Time: 12:30 - 1:30
Coach: Keisuke Andrew

Folks have been asking for a day MMA class for a long time. Well, now we have it! Keisuke will teach an MMA 1 class that focuses on the basic of MMA and spins in some great submission pieces too. It should be a super class for those who attend.

MMA Cross Training
Days: Fridays
Time: 6 - 7 pm
Coach: Daniel Krug

Coach Daniel is fired up to teach a good old fashion heavy bag workout class … this will be very Bas Rutten-esque … lots of rounds, lots of punching and kicking, lots of sweating, lots of fun! You won’t want to miss this!

2. Sub League 07 This Weekend — Compete, Support, Cheer!

The Pacific Northwest’s premier no-gi submission grappling event is back!
Get ready for Sub League 07, which begins on Saturday, March 3, 2007.

Sub League’s unique format allows for lots of matches, little controversy,
and tons of great grappling. Competing in a pool format (where you wrestle
all competitors in your group), rather than a bracket system (where the
number of competitors is cut in half each round), and having a clear point
system (no points within a match, simply points awarded based on the
outcome – submission or draw) allows the sport to shine.

The Sub League has grown. Last year we had over 265 competitors participate
in our four-event season. We are looking to increase those numbers this
year – in particular within the women’s divisions, youth divisions, and the
newly added novice divisions. With the launch of our third season, we have
worked to make the event even better than before. Here is a list of changes
and added features:

1. www.subleague.com
All the information about Sub League can be found on our website: rules,
divisions, weights, registration fee, online registration, etc.

2. A new ability grouping: Novice Divisions
This ability group had been added specifically for new athletes of the
sport. It is for folks with 6 months or less mat experience. It is a great
opportunity to compete in a safe, non-threatening environment. Thus, we will
have four ability groups: Novice, Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced.

3. More weight classes
Youth (ages 4 - 13) have nine weight class groupings. Teens (14 - 17) have
six weight divisions. Women have three weight divisions. Adults have six
weight divisions. For specific weight breakdowns, got to
http://www.subleague.com/divisions.html.

4. Streamlined, easy-to-follow rules for youth and teens divisions

5. Team competition / team points based on participation and performance

6. Sponsors
ROCKSTAR Energy Drinks, Howard Combat Kimonos, RevGear, the FCFF, CHOK
Fightgear, and Combative Conditioning are our main sponsors. Big thanks to
all of these supporters! They’ve been great.

7. Lower entry fee for adults

8. Northwest calendar of grappling and MMA events
Found on www.subleague.com, is designed to be a place where EVERYONE lists
their up-coming events… so everyone else can know about them and make them.
We hope this becomes a frequently used resource for everyone.

3. IMPACT Blue Shirts Restocked

A new shipment of blue IMPACT T-Shirts have just arrived. And, as a special offer, get a shirt prior to Saturday for $10 (Save $5). We want everyone to be wearing the gym shirt proudly at the sub league. See Office Manager Sarah.

4. Pan-Am Training - Come One, Come All!

A group of guys are training hard for the up-coming Pan-American BJJ Championships at the end of March and the Sub League Season. Recently I was asked by a new student asked what he had to do to be a part of the Pan-Am / Sub League competition training practices. It’s a great questions.

The short answer - nothing. Just jump in and start training. One of the great things about IMPACT is that everyone trains with everyone. There are always guys training … and I’ll you have to do is just jump in. Don’t be shy.

5. Change your mindset: Taping means you’re learning … not losing

There have been TOO MANY instances of people letting submissions go a little to far or are going for dangerous submission (ie. heel hooks, toe locks, etc.).

Key gym principles: 1) it is all about learning and growing … don’t get too caught up in winning; 2) Be safe at all times; 3) It’s okay to tap.

It’s better to tap and be safe than to let things go to far and hurt yourself. There should be no ego’s in the gym. We are here to learn and have fun.

6. Crazy Attendance is Cubs Club Classes - Over 17 Kids in Mondays Class — It ROCKED! ! !

We had over 17 Cubs and Big Cubs in class on Monday night … it was GREAT. There was lots of great learning and grappling going on.

SPECIAL THANKS to Coach Eric and Coach Charlie for helping out. It is always great to have them on the floor!
