2. Gym Holiday Food Drive Begins!Â
The 2nd Annual SBG Holiday Canned Food Drive officially begins today.Â
Last year we brought in over 150 cans … 156 to be exact … to contribute to the Oregon Food Bank. This year, let’s see if we can break 200..Â
As a part of our community service commitment, Cubs Club members will receive one green community green star for 20 can donated; two stars for 50 cans. For grown-ups, big thanks for making a difference in our community.Â
The Food Bank prefers vegetables, fruit, and soups. On especially high order this year is baby food. Please no ramen … as the nutritional value is quite low.Â
Thanks in advance for helping out those in need.Â

7. Great Weekend in L.A. at the 5th American International TournamentI was in L.A. this weekend to referee at the 5th American International Championship. It was a pretty fun experience. I ref-ed over 50 matches, got to hang out with some great talents in the gi and no-gi competitive world, saw tons of great wrestling, and trained with one of my first jiu-jitsu coaches - Chris Haueter.
Beaverton’s very own Jimmy Tang - he started at Beaverton close to 5 years ago … and has been living in LA for the last 3 years (he trains at Jean Jacque Machado’s school and is a purple belt now) - took 3rd place in the Mens’ Advanced Light Weight Division. Way to go JIMMY! ! !I’m hoping that we can take a troop of Beaverton folk down to compete in one of next year’s tournaments — I know we would tear it up … and have a great experience too. After that, who knows what is next … maybe Brazil? ? ?
