Sotiropoulos Defeats Pellegrino in UFC 116

George Sotiropoulos defeated Kurt Pellegrino by unanimous decision on Saturday, July 3 in Las Vegas, NV. George was all business, controlled all ranges, and proved once again that he belongs on top.

UFC’s Dana White was quoted on MMAJunkie.com, July 5:

“I’m impressed with him,” White said after the July 3 Las Vegas event. “I was blown away with his Joe ‘Daddy’ Stevenson fight, and he looked incredible [at UFC 116] against a guy I have a lot of respect for, too. Kurt Pellegrino is awesome.

“[Sotiropoulos] is right there. He’s fought his way into the mix. No doubt about it.”

Impact Jiu Jitsu and George’s training partners couldn’t be more proud. Congratulations, George!

STRIKEFORCE Comes to Portland

Friday, May 21, 2010, STRIKEFORCE will be at Portland’s Rose Garden Arena and Impact is on the card. Pro Escobedo will make his professional fight debut, and Lee Flores will be on the undercard with a tough amateur 185 lb. battle.

Tickets are available now at Impact Jiu Jitsu in Beaverton or Newberg. Proceeds from Impact’s ticket sales benefit Impact’s fighters.

Impact Goes 3-0 at FCFF 50th Show

Did you hear? Impact Jiu Jitsu went 3-0 at Rumble at the Roseland 50, on Saturday, March 6, 2010. This was the Full Contact Fight Federation’s (FCFF) sold out 50th anniversary show.

First up, Mike Moreno won in the second round with mount ground and pound, referee stop. Mike showed amazing poise, stretching his game to include a devastating, airborne, running, double leg takedown to mount.

Shaun Mirjavadi, coming off a recent title loss, refocused and fought a very controlled, smart fight. Shaun started off with good initial contact, excellent boxing, and then followed up with a fantastic single leg takedown to cross side control. Shaun fought like a man on a mission, and he got his belt back with a ground and pound referee stop.

Larry Munyon met his toughest opponent yet. His opponent trained with some of the best 205′ers around to get ready for Larry, but it is hard to prepare for a fight with a force of power and determination called Larry. Early in round one, Larry’s nose was bashed and very broken. Undeterred, Larry pushed forward, imposing his game. This was a great fight back and forth with no break in action for three rounds. In the end: unanimous decision, Larry Munyon.

It was a great team effort. Thank you to everyone who came out to support Impact’s fighters. A special thanks to Lee Flores “cut man supreme”, and warm up crew Shaun Ryan, Doug Steinbach, Jason Tubani, and Eric Hemphil.

Good Day Oregon Spends the Morning at Impact

Joe V from Fox 12 Oregon visited Impact Jiu Jitsu in Beaverton this morning. Good Day Oregon’s “On the Go with Joe” featured Joe learning some new moves from fighters who will be at the First Annual Health, Fitness and Mixed Martial Arts Expo taking place this Saturday (January 23) at the Oregon State Fairgrounds Pavilion in Salem. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature a submission grappling tournament sponsored by SUBLEAGUE.COM from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and cage fights from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

In addition to the MMA highlights, Joe worked on his Jiu Jitsu with Head Coach Michael Chapman while Impact’s Metabolic Circuit Training and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes were in session. More…
